On the way to Tennessee, I stopped in two Kentucky towns, Georgetown and Lexington.
The first stop was a quiet residential area of Georgetown.
Georgetown’s residential areas feature quiet, tree-lined neighborhoods with well-kept single-family homes, newer suburban developments, and easy access to parks, schools, and local shops.
Many homes sit among rolling green hills typical of Kentucky horse country, giving the area a peaceful, semi-rural feel while still being close to Lexington.
The downtown of Georgetown
Downtown Georgetown features a compact, walkable historic district with well-preserved 19th-century buildings, local boutiques, cafés, and small restaurants lining the streets.
Brick storefronts, courthouse architecture, and seasonal decorations create a classic small-town atmosphere, while public murals and local events add charm and community energy.
Then I arrived at Lexington. Lexington is a bigger city
Lexington is Kentucky’s second-largest city and the heart of horse country, known for its thoroughbred farms, historic racetracks, and rolling bluegrass landscape. The city blends a lively college-town atmosphere, thanks to the University of Kentucky, with bourbon heritage, local dining, and arts culture.
Lastly, I stopped at Cumberland Falls State Resort Park
Cumberland Falls State Resort Park in southeastern Kentucky is a scenic natural area known for its 68-foot-tall, 125-foot-wide waterfall often called the “Niagara of the South.” The park offers forested hiking trails, river overlooks, picnic areas, and wildlife viewing, but its most famous feature is the rare moonbow—a lunar rainbow visible on clear full-moon nights.
