The North Carolina Arboretum near Asheville is a large public garden and research center featuring themed gardens, walking and biking trails, and extensive collections of native Appalachian plants. Designed in part by landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted, it offers seasonal flower displays, bonsai exhibits, and educational programs.

It’s smaller compared to some other state gardens because it was designed primarily as an educational and regional horticulture center rather than a large formal display garden.

A hiking trail.  Its focus is on native Appalachian plants, research, and curated exhibits, so the developed visitor area is more compact, with much of the surrounding land preserved as forest rather than landscaped grounds.
