Then I took the metro to Retiro Park. The Retiro Park
The park’s origins date back to the 17th century when it was initially used as a retreat and recreational area for the Spanish monarchy. It was later opened to the public in the late 19th century and has since become one of Madrid’s most beloved and popular parks.
The Palacio de Velázquez
The palace was built in 1881 as a temporary exhibition hall for the National Exhibition of Mining, held in Retiro Park. It was designed by architect Ricardo Velázquez Bosco, who was inspired by the French Crystal Palace and the German cast-iron and glass architecture.
Today, the Palacio de Velázquez serves as an exhibition space for contemporary art. It hosts temporary exhibitions that feature the works of both national and international artists.
Crystal Palace (Palacio de Cristal): One of the park’s most prominent landmarks is the Crystal Palace, an elegant glass and iron structure inspired by London’s Crystal Palace. It is a popular exhibition space that hosts contemporary art exhibitions and cultural events.
Then I came back to where I stayed, Lavapiés. The Lavapiés neighborhood has a rich history that dates back centuries. It was originally a working-class area inhabited by artisans and laborers. Over the years, it has undergone transformation and become a diverse melting pot of cultures and nationalities.
