I left the bus station in Venice and walked toward the Gallerie dell’Accademia.  This path is the same as the one I went to last time for Ca’ Rezzonico.

Arrived in front of the museum

Next to the museum is this bridge over the Grand Canal

On the bridge, the pictures of the Grand Canal.  The domed building on the right is the Santa Maria della Salute, which I will visit after this museum.

The trash boat instead of a trash truck because there is no car inside Venice.  The bus and car come only up to the bus station.

Down from the bridge to the museum

The Gallerie

The gallery is renowned for its collection of pre-19th-century Venetian art, particularly emphasizing the Venetian Renaissance and Baroque periods.

The museum is housed in the former Scuola della Carità, a significant religious and educational institution founded in 1343. It was converted into an art gallery in 1807 by Napoleon Bonaparte during his rule over Venice.

The Gallerie dell’Accademia holds a remarkable collection of Venetian art dating from the 14th to the 18th century. The collection includes works by renowned artists such as Titian, Giovanni Bellini, Giorgione, Tintoretto, Veronese, and Canaletto, among others.

A special exhibition on Tiziano (Titian)

In 1508, Tiziano Vecellio, commonly known as Titian, was a young artist in his late teens or early twenties. He was at the early stages of his artistic career during this time. Titian would go on to become one of the most significant painters of the Venetian Renaissance, creating a vast body of work that includes portraits, mythological and religious paintings, and more.

The Basilica di Santa Maria della Salute

It stands at the entrance of the Grand Canal and is one of the iconic landmarks of Venice.

The church is known for its unique octagonal design, making it a standout example of Venetian Baroque architecture.

The church was built as a votive offering following the devastating outbreak of the plague in Venice in 1630-31.

Inside the church, you can find numerous masterpieces by notable artists of the Venetian Baroque era, including Titian, Tintoretto, and Francesco Guardi.
