The museum was officially opened in 1919, a few years after Rodin’s death in 1917. Rodin had donated his entire collection of sculptures, drawings, photographs, and archives to the French state, which led to the creation of the museum.

The Hôtel Biron was built in the early 18th century and has served various purposes over the years, including as a school and a convent before becoming a museum.

The museum’s extensive gardens are beautifully landscaped and contain many of Rodin’s sculptures, providing a serene outdoor setting for viewing his works.
