The city is known for its Mediterranean coastline, vibrant cultural scene, and historic architecture. It offers a blend of French and Italian influences, with highlights including the Promenade des Anglais, the old town (Vieux Nice), and the Marc Chagall National Museum.

My stay in Nice was a bit away from the old town, so I rode the tram to the old city.

I arrived near the Old Town Nice and walked toward Nice Cathedral.

Place Rossetti

Nice Cathedral.  This Baroque cathedral, dating back to the 17th century, is one of the main landmarks in Vieux Nice (Old Nice).

The cathedral was originally built in the 11th century and has undergone several renovations. The current structure mainly dates from the 17th century, with a Baroque style.

It is dedicated to Saint Réparate, the patron saint of Nice. According to legend, she was a young Christian martyr whose body was miraculously transported by angels to Nice.

Sainte-Réparate Cathedral is a designated national monument of France, reflecting its cultural and historical importance.

Without having a destination, I decide to walk the Old Nice.

It seemed that this was near one end of the town, so I decided to turn around and go in the other direction.

After wandering, I came to Cours Saleya Market. This famous market offers fresh produce, flowers, and local delicacies during the day, and transforms into an arts and crafts market in the evening.

It seemed a rather long market, so I turned around and walked back.

On the right side was a way to get to the beach.

I passed this street (Rue des Ponchettes) and continued to walk toward the beach.

There was an observation area (Bellanda Tower) on top of the building, so I climbed toward it.

Fontaine du Soleil (Fountain of the Sun) with statue of Apollo is located in the heart of Place Masséna, the city’s main square.

In front of the fountain is Place Massena, the main square in Nice.
