The museum features works from some of the greatest masters of the Renaissance, Baroque, and early modern periods.

The Old Masters Picture Gallery is situated in the Semper Wing of the Zwinger Palace, a stunning baroque complex that itself is one of the top attractions in Dresden.

The Zwinger was originally built in the early 18th century by architect Matthäus Daniel Pöppelmann under the commission of Augustus the Strong, Elector of Saxony and King of Poland

The collection of the Old Masters Picture Gallery spans several centuries of European art, focusing on Italian, Dutch, Flemish, Spanish, French, and German painters.

The gallery holds over 700 works, carefully curated to highlight the development of European painting from the early Renaissance to the Baroque period, reflecting the artistic and cultural richness of Europe.

“Sleeping Venus” by Giorgione: A seminal work of the Venetian Renaissance, this painting is one of the first known depictions of a reclining nude, symbolizing the ideal beauty of the Renaissance era.
