In the center of Sapporo city, this is a long street market, similar to those in many Japanese towns: a long street with side stores and a covered roof.

This market continues over many blocks across many streets

My first destination was Nijo Fish Market

The market area was not big as I expected

After the market, I headed to Odori Park, where the Sapporo TV Tower is located

The Sapporo TV Tower, standing at 147.2 meters, is a historic landmark at the eastern edge of Odori Park in Sapporo, Hokkaido. Built in 1957, it features an observation deck at 90.38 meters, offering panoramic views of the city, including Odori Park, Mount Moiwa, and the Ishikari Plain. The tower is renowned for its seasonal illuminations and serves as a centerpiece during events like the Sapporo Snow Festival. Visitors can enjoy shops, restaurants, and unique souvenirs on its lower levels, making it a popular destination for both sightseeing and cultural experiences.

Odori Park, located in the heart of Sapporo, is a vibrant green space stretching 1.5 kilometers and dividing the city into north and south. It serves as a hub for cultural events, including the famous Sapporo Snow Festival in winter and the Sapporo Lilac Festival in spring. The park features beautiful gardens, fountains, sculptures, and seasonal flower displays, making it a relaxing spot year-round. Flanked by city landmarks like the Sapporo TV Tower, it’s a popular destination for both locals and tourists to stroll, picnic, or enjoy festivals.

After the park, I walked to the Sapporo Clock Tower

The Sapporo Clock Tower, built in 1878, is a historic landmark and one of the oldest buildings in Sapporo. Originally part of the Sapporo Agricultural College, it features a wooden structure and an iconic clock mechanism still in operation. Located in the city center, the tower houses a museum showcasing Sapporo’s early development and the history of the college. Its timeless charm and cultural significance make it a must-visit site for those exploring the city.
