I stayed myself in the heart of the Tumon area, where all the hotel resorts are concentrated—a prime spot where most tourists choose to stay.

The beach is beside this road, and these are beachfront hotels.

Many stores that cater to visitors are located in this area.

Here, I turned around and walked back to where I started.

I drove to the Tamuning area from the Tumon area to see one of the major hospitals in Guam, the Memorial Hospital.

The main hospital in Guam is the Guam Memorial Hospital (GMH). It is a government-operated, public hospital located in Tamuning, near the central part of the island.

Next to the hospital is the Jonestown, a residential area.  If you’re visiting or passing through, Jonestown offers a glimpse into the local side of Guam, contrasting with the resort atmosphere of Tumon.

I drove up the hill ahead and made a right turn.

and came to is area with apartments

These apartment buildings sit on a hill with an ocean view, yet they obstruct the scenery, leaving locals unable to see the ocean that’s right next door.

Back side

I turned around and drove away from Jonestown.

I stopped at this four-way intersection as I was coming out of Jonestown.

Back side

In front of the four-way intersection, on the right-hand side, is a church area.

The church buildings appear to be no longer in use. They were once home to Tamuning Baptist Church.

Along Marine Drive, heading from Tamuning to Agana.

Back side

The ocean side along Marine Drive offers scenic views of the coastline, with stretches of clear blue water visible from the road.

I stopped at Ricardo J. Bordallo Governor’s Complex, also known as Adelup Point, located in HagÃ¥tña, Guam. This complex serves as the heart of Guam’s government, housing the offices of both the Governor and Lieutenant Governor, along with various essential agencies.

This site was once home to Adelup Elementary School, which stood here long before the construction of the current Ricardo J. Bordallo Governor’s Complex. The school was eventually demolished to make way for the government complex, marking a shift from its educational roots to its role as the center of Guam’s political administration.

The front field of the Ricardo J. Bordallo Governor’s Complex (Adelup Point) is an open, spacious area.  In the past, this field would have been part of the grounds of Adelup Elementary School before the site was transformed into the government complex.

I drove back toward Tamuning along Marine Drive and stopped at this spot along the way.

On the opposite side of the ocean is a residential area in Anigua, Guam.

A short drive from the U.S. District Court of Guam, I stopped in an area where government buildings are clustered in Hagåtña.

The Dulce Nombre de Maria Cathedral-Basilica is a historic and significant landmark located in Hagåtña, Guam. It serves as the mother church of the Archdiocese of Agaña and is one of the most important religious sites on the island.

The church was established in the 17th century during the Spanish colonial period, the cathedral has deep roots in Guam’s Catholic heritage.

The current structure, rebuilt after World War II, showcases beautiful Spanish-influenced architecture with striking white façades, arched windows, and a prominent bell tower.

The cathedral is situated in Hagåtña Plaza de España, near other historical landmarks, making it a central spot for both religious and cultural exploration in Guam.

Guam Museum (Department of Chamorro Affairs).  The Guam Museum, officially known as the Senator Antonio M. Palomo Guam Museum & Chamorro Educational Facility, operates under the Department of Chamorro Affairs. Located in Hagåtña, it serves as a central hub for preserving and showcasing the rich cultural heritage and history of Guam and the Chamorro people.

After seeing the church and the government buildings in Hagåtña, I drove to Gov. Joseph Flores Beach Park, also known as Ipao Beach Park.

Ipao Beach Park, also known as Gov. Joseph Flores Beach Park, is a popular public beach located in Tumon, Guam. It’s a favorite spot for both locals and tourists due to its beautiful white sandy beaches, clear turquoise waters, and excellent recreational facilities.

The beach boasts soft, white sand and crystal-clear waters, perfect for swimming, sunbathing, and beach activities.

On another day in Tumon, I took some time to explore the inside of these stores.

On one side were the stores, and on the other side of the area was a hotel. I’m not certain, but I believe it was the Dusit Beach Resort Guam.

On another day, I visited T Galleria Shopping Mall in Tumon.

Inside the shopping mall

One morning, I was looking for a coffee shop and found a Starbucks inside the Westin Hotel, so I went in.

The coffee shop

Sitting in the coffee shop with an ocean view made the cost of the coffee worth it.

On my first day in Guam, I visited Micronesia Mall, a popular shopping spot for the locals.
