Zurich, Switzerland’s largest city, combines a historic Old Town with modern city life. My walk took me through its narrow cobblestone streets, past historic churches, charming squares, and colorful buildings. Along the Limmat River, I enjoyed beautiful views of the city’s bridges and waterfront, discovering Zurich’s unique character along the way.

I realized that I had forgotten to see Grossmünster Church on the other side of the bridge, so I turned around and retraced my steps.

The building covered in scaffolding was actually Grossmünster Church, but I didn’t realize it at the time, so I kept walking to the church.

This building covered in scaffolding is Grossmünster Church, one of Zurich’s most famous landmarks. I was a bit disappointed because much of the church was hidden behind construction covers.

Grossmünster is one of Zurich’s most famous churches, known for its distinctive twin towers. Originally built in the Romanesque style during the 12th and 13th centuries, it played an important role in the Swiss Protestant Reformation under Huldrych Zwingli in the 16th century. Its twin towers are among Zurich’s most recognizable landmarks.

Now that I have seen Grossmünster Church, I am ready to cross the bridge to the other side of the Limmat River.

Augustinerkirche is a historic church in Zurich’s Old Town, originally built in the 13th century as part of an Augustinian monastery. Following the Protestant Reformation, it was used for secular purposes before being restored as a church in the 19th century. Today, it serves the Christian Catholic community of Zurich.

Rathausbrücke

Rathausbrücke is a historic pedestrian bridge crossing the Limmat River in Zurich’s Old Town, connecting the Rathaus (Town Hall) area with the opposite bank. Also known as the Gemüsebrücke (Vegetable Bridge), it once hosted a vegetable market. Its unusually wide, open design makes it feel more like a public square than a traditional bridge.
