I took another day tour that visited four Chateaux in the Loire Valley.  It visited Chateau d’Azay-le-Rideau, Chateau de Villandry,  Château de Langeais and Château d’Ussé.  This blog shows pictures of Chateau d’Azay-le-Rideau and Chateau de Villandry.

As I walked to Chateau d’Azay-le-Rideau.

Recognized as a historical monument since 1840, it is part of the Loire Valley UNESCO World Heritage Site.

My back side

Built between 1518 and 1527 during the reign of Francis I.

Combines French medieval defensive architecture with the Italian Renaissance style, known for its elegant and refined design.

Walking around the surrounding area

Surrounded by an English-style landscaped garden, it provides a serene and picturesque setting.

Originally a feudal castle, it was transformed into a Renaissance chateau by Gilles Berthelot, a wealthy financier and Mayor of Tours.

Although the chateau was primarily a luxurious residence, it retained some elements of medieval defensive architecture, such as its moat. This was partly due to the turbulent times in which it was built, which necessitated some level of fortification.

The interior showcases Renaissance decorations, including tapestries, paintings, and period furniture.

Exiting the Chateau

The second Chateau of the tour was the Château de Villandry.

The Château de Villandry.  The original medieval fortress was transformed into a Renaissance chateau in the early 16th century.

Jean le Breton, Finance Minister for Francis I, acquired the property in 1532 and oversaw its reconstruction in the Renaissance style.

The chateau changed hands several times over the centuries and was purchased in 1906 by Dr. Joachim Carvallo, who undertook significant restoration efforts.

The chateau itself is a fine example of Renaissance architecture, with elegant proportions and decorative elements typical of the period.

Inside the Chateau

The whole Chateau area.  As it is shown, it has a huge garden area.

The interior includes period-appropriate furnishings, art, and decorations that provide insight into Renaissance life and aesthetics.

The Château de Villandry is most famous for its gardens, which are among the finest in France. They were designed in the Renaissance style and restored in the early 20th century by Dr. Carvallo.

Came back into the building

Came out from the building and into the garden

The gardens are divided into several terraces, each with a different theme.

Many garden sections are symbolic, with designs representing themes such as love, music, and religious beliefs.

I had some time left to see Villandry town, which is located just next to the Chateau.
