Construction began in 1985 and was completed in 1989, in time for the bicentennial of the French Revolution.

The Grande Arche is a hollow cube, with a width, height, and depth of 110 meters. The structure includes a roof terrace that offers panoramic views of Paris, and its sides house office spaces.

The interior of the arch is used for various purposes, including office space and exhibition areas. It also has a rooftop terrace which is open to the public and offers stunning views over Paris.
