On the way back from Cannes to Nice, I stopped at Antibes for a quick tour. Antibes is known for its old town enclosed by 16th-century ramparts with the star-shaped Fort Carré.

The museum is housed in the Château Grimaldi, a historic castle that dates back to the 14th century. The castle was originally a Greek trading post, then a Roman fort, and later a residence for the Grimaldi family.
In 1946, Picasso was invited to use the castle as his studio. During his stay, he created numerous works which he later donated to the city of Antibes. This collection forms the core of the museum’s holdings.

Inside the museum

The museum’s collection includes paintings, drawings, ceramics, and sculptures created by Picasso during his time in Antibes. Notable works include “La Joie de Vivre,” “Satyr, Faun and Centaur with Trident,” and various ceramics.
