The Art Gallery of New South Wales is one of Australia’s premier art institutions, located in a picturesque setting overlooking Sydney’s harbor and the Royal Botanic Garden. Established in 1871, the gallery showcases a diverse collection of Australian, European, Asian, and contemporary art, along with one of the country’s most significant collections of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander works.

The gallery’s original neoclassical building has recently been expanded with the Sydney Modern Project—a striking, contemporary space that doubles the exhibition area and brings in more natural light and outdoor terraces.

Admission to the permanent collection is free, and the gallery hosts major international exhibitions, artist talks, film screenings, and cultural events throughout the year. It’s not only a place to view art but also a peaceful spot to reflect and engage with creativity in the heart of Sydney.
