Over the centuries, it expanded and evolved into a complex that included a hospital, an orphanage, and a hostel for pilgrims. Today, it has been repurposed and houses the Museo Santa Maria della Scala, which showcases a collection of art and artifacts related to the history of the complex and the city of Siena.
