Il Campo
Architecture: The Piazza del Campo is surrounded by buildings of medieval origin. The Palazzo Pubblico (Town Hall) and the Torre del Mangia (Mangia Tower) are two prominent structures that dominate the square. The Torre del Mangia is a tall tower that offers panoramic views of the city.
Palio di Siena: Il Campo is famous for hosting the Palio di Siena, a historic horse race that takes place twice a year, on July 2nd and August 16th. The race involves ten riders representing ten of the seventeen contrade (districts) of Siena.
The Palazzo Pubblico. The Palazzo Pubblico has served as Siena’s town hall for centuries and has been the seat of the Republic of Siena’s government since its construction. It housed the governing body of Siena, the Nine (Noveschi), a council of nine influential citizens who were responsible for the city’s administration.
The Museo Civico, or Civic Museum, is located within the Palazzo Pubblico in Siena, Italy. It is an integral part of the historic complex that includes the town hall, the Palazzo Pubblico, and the Torre del Mangia.
Il Capo again. Shell Shape: The square is known for its distinct shell shape, which is divided into nine sections to represent the Council of Nine, a group that governed Siena during the medieval period.

The Siena Cathedral is a stunning example of Italian Romanesque-Gothic architecture. Its construction started in 1226 and continued over several centuries.
The interior of the cathedral is vast and richly decorated. The nave and aisles are separated by columns, and the floor is adorned with inlaid marble mosaics depicting biblical scenes.
In the same area is located the church museum.
