My visit to Colorado Springs began at Garden of the Gods, where I first stopped inside the visitor center…

Garden of the Gods is a striking landscape of towering red rocks and sculpted sandstone formations, surrounded by panoramic views of Pikes Peak. Easy trails and scenic pullouts make it a great place to explore Colorado’s unique geology.

Katharine Lee Bates (1859–1929) was an American writer, poet, and professor.

In 1893, while visiting Colorado Springs, Bates traveled up to the summit of Pikes Peak. The sweeping views of the mountains, plains, and skies inspired her to write the poem that later became the patriotic song “America the Beautiful.”

I stopped at a nearby town, Manitou Springs

Manitou Springs is a historic resort town famous for its naturally carbonated mineral water, quirky shops, and artistic vibe. Its walkable streets, mountain backdrop, and connection to Pikes Peak make it a popular stop near Colorado Springs.

Then I drove to nearby Old Colorado City

Once the first capital of the Colorado Territory, Old Colorado City features brick storefronts, tree-lined streets, restaurants, and local artisan shops.
