An Island Tour to a nearby small island from Fiji. 1058

Monuriki Island: Fiji

This tour started at Port Denarau Marina in Viti Levu, Fiji, and stopped at two swimming areas and one island, Monuriki.

The small boat carried about 25 snorkelers, and it took around an hour to reach our first stop.

An island we passed by

This was our first stop—out in the middle of the ocean near a small, sandy island. The water was clear and close to a coral reef, where many fish could be seen. It was a beautiful spot and perfect for snorkeling, but I stayed on the boat and missed out on the fun.

Viewing this area once more

The boat left the area and took about 20 more minutes to reach the next spot. It stopped in open water, allowing the swimmers to jump in and swim around the boat.

Then the boat left the second spot and traveled for another 20 minutes before arriving at an island where we could disembark and take a walk around.

This island is called Monuriki.

Monuriki is a small, uninhabited island located off the coast of Viti Levu in Fiji’s Mamanuca archipelago. Covering approximately 0.4 square kilometers, the island features volcanic terrain, lagoons, palm trees, and white sandy beaches.

Monuriki gained international fame as the primary filming location for the 2000 movie “Cast Away,” starring Tom Hanks. This association has made it a popular destination for tourists, who often refer to it as “Cast Away Island.”
