After visiting Mount Pilatus, I made another day trip to Mount Rigi, another beautiful mountain destination that is easily reachable from Lucerne.

Unlike Mount Pilatus, my journey to Mount Rigi began with a scenic boat ride across Lake Lucerne before continuing up the mountain.

I boarded the boat at the pier near Lucerne’s main train station, beginning the scenic journey across Lake Lucerne toward Mount Rigi.

Lake Lucerne has many boat stops along its shores, where the boat stops to pick up and drop off passengers along the way.

I had to get off the boat at Weggis because of a problem validating my ticket, which I needed to resolve before continuing my journey.

After resolving the ticket issue, I spent some time looking around Weggis. The view across Lake Lucerne was so beautiful that I stopped to take many pictures before continuing my journey.

While waiting to continue my journey, I also took the opportunity to walk around the small town of Weggis.

After exploring Weggis, I boarded another boat and continued across Lake Lucerne toward my originally planned destination.

I got off the boat at Vitznau and boarded the cogwheel train for the scenic ride up Mount Rigi.

I arrived at Rigi Kulm, the highest point of Mount Rigi, and stepped off the cogwheel train at the mountain-top station.

It was a little foggy at the top, so the surrounding mountain scenery was not very clear.

Looking in the opposite direction from the mountain scenery, there was a hill that I could climb for a higher viewpoint.

From the top of the hill, I could see the lakes below and the towns and cities spread across the surrounding landscape.

After enjoying the views from the top of the hill, I began walking back down toward the Rigi Kulm train station.

From the Rigi Kulm station, I followed a hiking trail downhill to the next train station, where I could continue my journey down the mountain.

I walked down the mountain trail to Rigi Staffel station, where I boarded the cogwheel train for the trip down toward Weggis.

I arrived back in Weggis and continued walking through the town toward the boat station, where I would catch a boat back to Lucerne.

I boarded the boat at Weggis and began the scenic journey across Lake Lucerne back to Lucerne.
