Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve preserves one of the few remaining stretches of native tallgrass prairie, once covering millions of acres across the Great Plains. Trails, historic ranch structures, and free-roaming bison help tell the story of this rare and fragile ecosystem.
I was told that this trail eventually reaches a viewing area for bison, so I followed it to see if I could spot any.
At first glance, the landscape isn’t striking, but the vast open prairie under a clear sky has a quiet beauty of its own.
