Arriving in Korea at the end of March meant that cherry blossom season was just beginning. Since the blossoms last for only a short time, usually around a week or two, I went to Yeouido, one of Seoul’s most popular places to enjoy them.
Before heading to Yeouido, I stopped for a cup of coffee and some bread.

Near where I was staying, there were many coffee shops, each with its own distinctive interior design and atmosphere.

After arriving in Yeouido, I walked toward the area where most of the cherry trees are located.

The cherry blossoms stretch along one long road, with rows of cherry trees lining one side of the street.

The other side of the street had only a few cherry trees, so most visitors gathered along the side where the trees formed a long continuous row.

I turned onto a side street and walked toward a parallel street that runs alongside the main cherry blossom street.

This narrower parallel street had cherry trees lining both sides, creating a more intimate walkway beneath the blossoms.

I turned onto a side street that led me back toward the main cherry blossom street.

I came back to the main cherry blossom street and began walking back toward where I had started.

I arrived back at the place where I had started my walk through Yeouido’s cherry blossom streets.

Since I was already in Yeouido, I decided to visit The Hyundai Seoul, one of the city’s largest and most modern department stores.

더현대 서울 (The Hyundai Seoul)

The Hyundai Seoul is a large, modern department store in Yeouido that opened in 2021. Rather than looking like a traditional department store packed with merchandise, it was designed with large open spaces, natural light, indoor gardens, cafés, restaurants, and cultural areas alongside its shops.

One of its best-known features is Sounds Forest, a large indoor garden with trees and seating areas beneath a high glass ceiling. The store has become a destination in itself, particularly for younger visitors interested in fashion, food, cafés, and pop-up stores.

The lower level of The Hyundai Seoul has a large food hall filled with restaurants, cafés, bakeries, and specialty food shops offering a wide variety of Korean and international foods.

Another large shopping center in Yeouido is IFC Mall, a modern underground mall with numerous shops, restaurants, cafés, and a movie theater.

Since much of IFC Mall is located underground, I found it a little harder to find the entrance than I expected.

After visiting the malls, I went to a nearby restaurant and had dinner before leaving Yeouido.
