Daejeon was one of the connecting cities for the train that goes from Seoul to Busan. It is all because many Japanese citizens lived at Daejeon. Initially, there were more Japanese than Korean who lived in Daejeon.
When Japan colonized Korea, many Japanese came to Korea to live. They selected a location where only a few Koreans lived because they would be freer when Korean were not nearby. The location they chose was Daejeon because there waw hardly anybody lived there at that time.
Eventually, Korean came to live in Daejeon, employed by the factories that the Japanese built.
Eventually, the number of Koreans who lived in Daejeon surpassed the Japanese. There were many who worked against the Japanese rule of Korea.
And some Korean went to Jail for that – below is a letter written by a jailer.
During the Korean War, most of Daejeon was destroyed.
I came to Sungsimdang bakery. This brand is famous in Daejeon.
