Suwon Hwaseong is a fortification surrounding the center of Suwon, the provincial capital of Gyeonggi-do, in South Korea. It was built from 1794 to 1796 by King Jeongjo of the Joseon dynasty to house and honor the remains of his father, Prince Sado.

The bus stop in front of the Paldalmun gate, which is the southern city gate.  This gate is the main gate of the Suwon fortress.

The Paldalmun gate.  Unlike the northern gate, this is closed to the public.

Walking toward the northern gate, the Hwaseong Haenggung is on the way.

Taking the way that goes through artist workshop store street where hand made products are displayed and sold.

Reaching the Hwaseong Haenggung Palace.  This palace is small and modest compared with the palaces in Seoul because this is where the king comes for rest.

The first door.

The second door, which looks like the first door.

The building that houses the throne.

The side buildings

The throne

Going through the one of the side structure.

More buildings in the courtyard

Going through another door in the courtyard.

And more buildings inside

And repeat …., by this time, it is easy to get lost because the buildings look the same.

Looking at the portion of the palace from a small hill on the back.

There are more buildings out of the palace wall, but they look different from the buildings inside the palace wall.

Finished with the palace, I walked toward the Hwaseong Northern Gate by the Sinpung street.

The northern gate is called the Janganmun.  This gate is about the same size as the southern gate, and this gate is open to the public.

I climbed up the wall

Inside the top structure of the gate

From the gate, I walked the fortress wall to the east.

Reaches the Hwahongmun, which is the most beautiful-looking structure of the fortress.

Looking back the walking path
