Paris Walk – Le Marais, France

Le Marais is a historic district in Paris, France, known for its charming medieval architecture, narrow streets, and vibrant cultural scene.

Situated in the 3rd and 4th arrondissements, it is one of the city’s oldest and most picturesque neighborhoods.

Le Marais, which means “The Marsh,” originally referred to the swampy land along the Right Bank of the Seine River. The area began to be developed in the 12th century and flourished during the Renaissance, becoming a fashionable district for nobility. Many grand hôtels particuliers (historic townhouses) were built during this time, some of which still stand today.

I went to this area for two museums, the Picasso Museum and Musée National d’Art Moderne (The Centre Pompidou)

Inside the Picasso Museum:  Housed in the Hôtel Salé, this museum is dedicated to the works of Pablo Picasso, showcasing a vast collection of his paintings, sculptures, and drawings.

Place des Vosges: The oldest planned square in Paris, it is surrounded by beautiful, symmetrical buildings and features a lovely central park.
