Salton Sea State Recreation and Nearby Areas, Mecca, California, USA

Dec 26, 2020 | California: Other Regions, Neighborhood, Park

The Salton Sea at the southeastern side of Los Angeles is the largest lake in California, but it is too salty and poisonous for marine life to live.  The other areas visited are Bambay Beach Ruins, Niland, Salvation Mountain, and Land Art in East Jesus.

100-225 State Park Road Mecca, CA 92254

The Salton Sea.

Bombay Beach Ruins – the town is abandoned when the Salton Sea became too toxic.

Close to Bombay Beach Ruins is the town of Niland.  This town is not an abandoned town like Bombay Beach but a people living town.

Near the Niland, Salvation Mountain is a literal man-made mountain 28 years in the making, covered in half a million gallons of latex paint.

Near the Salvation Mountain is the Land Art in East Jesus.
