The scuole grandi were confraternities or guilds in Venice with a religious and charitable purpose. The Scuola Grande di San Rocco was dedicated to Saint Roch, a Christian saint known for his dedication to caring for the sick.
The interior of the Scuola Grande di San Rocco houses an exceptional collection of artworks by the Venetian Renaissance painter Jacopo Tintoretto, including paintings that depict scenes from the Bible and the life of Saint Roch. Tintoretto’s work in the scuola is considered among his masterpieces.
