The area around Hansando Island was the Battle of Hansan Island site during the Imjin War, where Admiral Yi Sun-shin decisively defeated the main Japanese war fleet.

The Hansando island is large and closely located from Tongyeong.  It takes about 30 minutes of the ferry ride to reach it.  It is big enough to have a bus system.  The popular tourist location on the island is Yi Sun-shin Jeseungdang which is a building that Admiral Yi Sun-shin built to memorize the victory against the Japanese in a significant sea battle.  It was used by him subsequently as a battle command center for three years.

Arrived at the island on the ferry

Explanation about the island and Admiral Yi Sun-shin

The Jeseungdang is within walking distance from the port.  The pictures were taken as I walked toward the site.

The site is guard by mannequin soldiers.

This is the location where Yi Sun-shin looks out the ocean and thought about the battle plan.

Turned around and went behind the building on the right

There was this door, so I went through it

Then I went through the door in the picture below

It is this building where the portrait of Yi Sun-shin is located.

This explains who Yi Sun-Shin was

Walked out from portrait building and went back to the largest building in the area. Then I went behind the largest building and down the stairs to come to this building.

This location was where the soldiers practiced archery.

The mark panel is far away and across the water.

I finished looking at this location, so I walked back to the port

I came back to the port.  I had time left until the boat departure time, so I took a bus from the port and went to the other side of the island.  It took about 30 minutes to get there.

I reached this small village Jindu, but perhaps the largest village on the island. A spanning view of the village from left to right.

The building on the right hill is a combined elementary and junior high school.

Nearby is the bridge that connects Hansando island to Choobongdo island.  Walking to Choobongdo island to Bongam Village.

The Bongam Village

This is more of a residential village than a commercial.

The Bongam Village beach is made of pebbles.

A little cafe on the beach

I walked back to Jindu Village to take the bus back to the port.  A spanning view of the sea from the bridge from left to right.  The white mark on the sea is for the fish farms.

Back to Jindu Village.

I took the bus to the ferry port and took the ferry to Tongyeong.

Came back to the stay.  The ocean view from the stay living room.
