Yeonhwado lies 24 km south of Tongyeong port and is the first inhabited island among the islands in Tongyeong.  Spectacular rock formations and breathtaking cliffs surround it.

Yeonhawdo Island: Yeonhwado, Tongyeong, South Korea

I took a taxi to Tongyeong Port Ferry Terminal to take a boat to Yeonwhado Island departs at 9:30 AM.

It costs about $10 each way to the island and takes about one hour.

Arriving at the island.

I took a small village bus from the Ferry port that goes to another port village on the island on the opposite side because it is near where I want to hike.  The cost was about $1.

I arrived on the other side, and the village looks like this.

Very near the village is this bridge that is near the popular viewpoints on the island.

Looking at the village from the bridge.

Start to go across the bridge.  The upper side shows the trail fence that I will pass by.

Reached the other side of the bridge, keep climbing.

Looking back at the bridge.

The front view

Followed the hiking trail

Reached the observation deck.

The view from the observation deck: left, center, and right.

Going back to the bridge because I am done with this side of the bridge.  I will climb up the other side of the bridge next.

The view of the other side of the bridge.

I need to climb down this rock first.

Nearly back to the bridge.

I came back down to the village before I go up the other side of the bridge because I wanted to eat something.

This is the only market in the town, and it only sells some drinks, ramens, and ice cream but no premade food that can be consumed right away.  So I bought two icecreams for lunch.  One lesson I learned was to bring food with me if I want a long hike.

Walking back to the bridge.

From the high above the other side of the bridge.

The hike is steep with jagged rocks.  The hike is suitable only for experienced hikers.  With the cliffs on the other side, it is scary.  It is more close to crawling up the rocks instead of hiking.

With the arduous effort, I was rewarded with a view like this.

This is the famous Yongmeori (the head of the dragon) vista.

Another photo of it.

The top.

From here is hiking down.

Many cliffs are near the hiking trail.

Done with hiking, and I am on the paved road.  From here, I will walk to the Ferry Port.  There are hiking trails parallel with this road to the port, but this way is much safer.

The views from the road.

A Buddhist temple (Yeonhwasa Temple) can be seen.  On the far side is the Ferry Port.

Walking past another village.

Instead of going directly to the port, I walked more to reach Bodeogam Buddhist Temple.

Because from the temple site, I can see another view of the dragon head.  The farthest rock is the dragon head, and the rest is the body following into the ocean.

While walking back to the port, I found an elementary school.

The houses near the port are nicely painted.

Finally, the port and the stores at the port.  I took the 4:10 PM boat back to Tongyeong.
