Everglades National Park, Homestead, Florida, USA

The Everglades are a network of wetlands and forests fed by a river flowing 0.25 miles (0.40 km) per day out of Lake Okeechobee, southwest into Florida Bay

Everglades National Park Ernest F. Coe Visitor Center: 40001 State Hwy 9336, Homestead, Florida, USA

The park was established in 1934, to protect the quickly vanishing Everglades, and was dedicated in 1947 as major canal-building projects were initiated across South Florida. The ecosystems in Everglades National Park have suffered significantly from human activity, and restoration of the Everglades is a politically charged issue in South Florida.

Everglades National Park has four visitor centers, and Ernest F. Coe Visitor Center is the most popular.

The main scenic road is from Ernest Coe visitor center to Flamingo visitor center.  There are trails along the route.

On the back of the visitor center

This blog shows the walking trails along the route but not the road view along the way because there was no stopping area for the car between the walking trails.

The first stop was the Royal Palm area for two trails that are next to each other.

What you see is the Slough, a slow-moving channel of water.

Returning back to the starting point

The gumbo Limbo trail starts nearby

This trail is more like going through a dense forest, and the scenery looks the same along the path, so I did not go through to the end.

Driving along the route and stopped at this trail.

The West Lake

I passed a region with this scenery on the way to the Flamingo visitor center.

Spanning view

The Flamingo visitor center was closed when I arrived, so I left the park.
