Great wave-like dunes of gypsum sand have engulfed 275 square miles of desert, creating the world’s largest gypsum dunefield. White Sands National Park preserves a major portion of this unique dunefield, along with the plants and animals that live here.

How the sands exist in the park
The sand comes from the two mountains adjacent to the dunefield.
This trail is a one-mile loop close to the edge of the dunefield, and thus it has many plants.
Looking back at the parking lot.
The sand is very fine and powdery.
Came back to the starting point of the trail.
On the way to the next trail. The road was covered with sands but seemed covered with snow.

This is two miles round trip trail, and I am the only one doing it. Follow the trail signposts not to get lost on the trail course.

Not many plants are here because the location is closer to the center of the dunefields than the other trail.
I came back close to the starting point of the trail. People can be seen here closer from the starting point, but most did not venture long into the trail.
