Yehliu Geopark is known for its unique geological formations carved by erosion over millions of years.

The park is famous for its “Queen’s Head” rock formation, which resembles the head of a queen. Other notable formations include the Fairy Shoe, Mushroom Rocks, and the Dragon’s Head. Visitors can wander along the designated paths and explore the fascinating array of rocks and formations, many of which have been given imaginative names based on their shapes.

I took a bus from Taipei to the park.  The bus travel time was about 90 minutes.  It took another 10 minutes to walk from the bus stop to the park.

The Queen Head Formation 2

There are two areas in this park that have this earth formation.  Each area is not large.  This is the first area.

Down to the Earth formation

The rocks at Yehliu Geopark are primarily composed of sedimentary sandstone and shale. These rocks were originally formed from layers of sand and silt that accumulated over long periods.

Over millions of years, various natural forces, including wind, water, and waves, have gradually eroded and weathered the soft sedimentary rocks. The softer layers of rock are more susceptible to erosion, leading to the formation of distinct shapes and features.

Taiwan is in a tectonically active region, with the Philippine Sea Plate colliding with the Eurasian Plate. The geological movement has uplifted parts of the island, exposing these ancient formations.
