One of the most famous landmarks in Assisi is the Basilica of Saint Francis of Assisi (Basilica di San Francesco), which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The basilica is dedicated to Saint Francis, the patron saint of Italy, and it houses important works of art, including frescoes by renowned artists such as Giotto.
Assisi is also known for its well-preserved medieval cityscape, with narrow winding streets, medieval buildings, and charming squares. The town is perched on the slopes of Mount Subasio, offering picturesque views of the surrounding countryside.
I took a train from Florence to Assisi, which took about two hours and 30 minutes. From the train station, it is a short bus ride to the town center.
The town feels unique because the buildings are made of white stones.
