These outposts were established by Catholic religious orders to spread Christianity among the local natives.
Mission Concepcion


Out of six missions built during the time, only five survived: the Alamo, Mission Concepcion, Mission San Jose, Mission San Juan, and Mission Espada. The last four missions are covered in this post since the Alamo is covered in another post.
Each mission is separated by about 3 miles along the San Antonio River.
