Woljeongsa Temple, Pyeongchang, South Korea

Woljeongsa Temple is located in a forested valley on the eastern side of Odaesan Mountain. The 1 kilometer path leading to the temple passes through a forest of tall fir trees, some over 500 years old. Woljeongsa Temple is in charge of over 60 temples and 8 monasteries in the area. The temple was established by Monk Ja Jang (590-658) of the Silla Kingdom.

I had to take two buses to reach this temple from Hoenggye, Pyeongchang.

Next to the temple entrance is a long trail of Needle fir Forest.

Unlike other temples, this temple is located in large flat land.  No need to climb hills.

The left of the building on the right.  The left building (only a small part of it can be seen) is the largest building in this temple.

The building on the right is the largest building in the temple and inside resides the largest Buddha in the temple.

In front of the largest building is the octagonal nine-story stone pagoda, but it goes through a deconstruction process (taking apart) for cleaning.

The pagoda is hidden inside the construction beams.

to the center of the temple.

Turn left and far away is the gate building.

Walk past the largest building but before the next one, then turn left.

Go inside

Turn back and walk out

Out to the largest building

Turn right and go around to the backside of the building just visited

Walk to the building on the left with the green doors.

There is another building next to the green door building.

Turn around and face the largest building.

Walk on behind the largest building.

Look at the left side toward the center of the temple as walk passing the largest building.

Instead of going to the center of the temple, keep going straight to the other corner of the temple.

Walk forward.  This side is where the monks reside and do daily activities, so the buildings are closed for a visit.

Turn back and face the largest building again.

Turn right and walk to the center of the temple again

and turn right (opposite from the gate building)

Turn around and

walk out from the temple

Turned back and came back to the bridge.  The view as I walking across the bridge.  There is another smaller bridge far away.
