Mürren is a small, car-free mountain village perched high above the Lauterbrunnen Valley in the Swiss Alps. Traditional wooden chalets, quiet streets, and dramatic mountain scenery give the village its special character. Its elevated location provides spectacular views of the surrounding peaks and makes the journey there part of the experience.
If you followed along from my previous blog, I started this journey in Wengen, hiked down to Lauterbrunnen village, and then continued through the Lauterbrunnen Valley on foot and by bus. At the other end of the valley, I reached the cable car station, took the cable car up the mountain, and finally arrived in Mürren.
Because Wengen and Mürren are on opposite sides of the deep Lauterbrunnen Valley, there is no simple direct train or cable-car connection between them.
So my route made sense: Wengen → down to Lauterbrunnen Valley → across the valley → cable car up toward Mürren. And it had the advantage of letting me experience the valley itself rather than simply traveling between the two mountain villages.
Mürren felt different from Wengen. It seemed smaller and cozier, without a long commercial area or many large buildings. The houses along the main street were especially cute and beautiful, giving the village a charming alpine atmosphere. Beyond the main street were many quiet residential houses.

I stopped here, turned around, and began walking back through Mürren toward the cable car station.
Instead of retracing my steps along the same road, I took a detour through one of the quiet side streets to see more of Mürren.
Here is the Allmendhubel funicular station, where the inclined railway takes passengers from Mürren farther up the mountain to Allmendhubel.
I walked past the Allmendhubel funicular station and continued to the right, heading back toward the cable car station.
From this quiet side street, I could see many of Mürren’s residential houses, giving me a glimpse of the village beyond its main street.
I am now back at the cable car station, where I started my walk through Mürren.
I am now on the cable car heading back down into the Lauterbrunnen Valley, enjoying the mountain and valley views along the way.
After returning to the Lauterbrunnen Valley, I made my way back to Wengen, completing my journey through Lauterbrunnen and Mürren.
Back in my hotel room in Wengen, I could relax and enjoy the beautiful view over Wengen and the Lauterbrunnen Valley.
