Scotland Tour on day two follows the move from Inverness to Kirkwall, Orkney Islands.
O’Groats Harbour: Unnamed Road, John o’ Groats, Wick KW1 4YR
Kirkwall: Harbour St, Kirkwall KW15 1LE
The first stop was along the way near a white castle on a cliff.
The next stop was at John O’Groats Harbour, where the ferry terminal to the Orkney Islands is located. The signpost designates that this point is the Land’s End (most northern) of Great Brittan’s mainland.
On the ferry
Kirkwall is the most populous town on Oakney’s main island.
At the center of the town is St Magnus Cathedral. The cathedral is dedicated to St. Magnus, an Earl of Orkney who was martyred in 1117. Construction of the cathedral began in the 12th century and continued over several centuries, resulting in a unique blend of architectural styles, including Romanesque and Gothic elements.
Incredibly, people built this large church in the 12th century in this remote place.
