The National Museum of Qatar tells the story of Qatar and its people, from the peninsula’s geological origins and earliest inhabitants through traditional desert and coastal life, pearling, the discovery of oil and gas, and the rapid development of modern Qatar. Its 11 galleries combine historical objects, archaeological finds, photographs, oral histories, large-scale films, and immersive displays.
The museum itself is one of Doha’s architectural landmarks. Designed by French architect Jean Nouvel and completed in 2019, its dramatic overlapping discs were inspired by the desert rose, a naturally occurring crystal formation found in the region.
